"Practicing Spirituality with Thich Nhat Hanh" is a 40-day e-course with an online Practice Circle — a virtual sangha — where participants can encourage and support each other. Every morning for 40 days, you will receive an email with a brief reading from Thich Nhat Hanh's prolific writings (thanks to the cooperation of Parallax Press, his premier publisher) as well as a practice suggestion based on this teaching. In the Practice Circle, we'll share how we have applied this wisdom to our daily lives.

Thich Nhat Hanh is a world renowned writer, spiritual leader, scholar, poet, peace activist, and Buddhist monk. Born in Vietnam, he became a monk at age 16. He came to America in the 1960s to study and teach but returned to his homeland during the Vietnam War and became a pioneer of "engaged Buddhism," which blends meditation with active nonviolent civil disobedience. He now lives in Plum Village, a Buddhist retreat center and monastic community in France, and is the teacher for other sanghas that practice the art of attentive living.

Thich Nhat Hanh's instructions in the practice of mindfulness have enriched the daily lives of millions of people around the world. He writes often about spiritual practices that help us transform our anger and violence so that we can "be peace" and bring compassion to our families and communities.

Thich Nhat Hanh speaks to people of all religious backgrounds. There is a simple elegance to his spiritual teachings that brings to mind the spare and yet profound teachings of both Jesus and Lao Tzu. He helps us recognize the connections — the interbeing — of all life on Earth. This understanding engenders a sense of unity and harmony with the world and its abundant wonders. "To take good care of yourself and to take good care of living beings and of the environment," he writes, "is the best way to love God."
