In the Moment Practice:
Give Yourself a Hug

"I know this technique sounds a little corny so I took it for a test drive and guess what? It works.

"Find a quiet place to be alone and give yourself five minutes of kindness.

"Start by putting your hands over your heart and feeling it beating. Gently lay your palms along your cheeks, wrap your arms around yourself, like a hug, or massage your neck, rub your arm.

"Physical touch can release oxytocin that helps kick in our caregiving tendency, which means that when 'You start acting kindly, feelings of true warmth and caring will eventually follow,' [Kristin] Neff says."
