“When we speak of God, or rather the quest for God, how can we not recall Rabbi Levi Yitzhak of Berditchev, the stubborn defender of the Jewish people, demanding that the Almighty alleviate their suffering in exile? How can one not remember his beautiful, heartbreaking son: 'Riboinoi shel oilem,' Master of the Universe, 'Ikh vil dir a dudele zingen,' I will sing You a little tune. 'Ayey emtzo’ekhoh?' Where can I find you? 'Ve’ayey lo emtzo’ekhoh?' And where can I not find you?

“But then we might ask: Why look for Him, since He is everywhere? For me, this question is valid only when turned around: Why not look for Him, since He is everywhere? And so the question becomes an answer in itself. But what if one looks and looks and finds no one? Must one go on looking — or look elsewhere? Or should one stop looking altogether?”
