Becca Anderson begins this devotional resource with a chapter titled "When Everything Is New Again." Three quotes caught our attention:

  • "Sometimes our light goes out, but is blown again into instant flame by an encounter with another human being."
    — Albert Schweitzer
  • "We should always pray for help, but we should always listen for inspiration and impression to proceed in ways different from those we may have thought of. "
    — John H. Groberg
  • "A problem is a chance for you to do your best."
    — Duke Ellington

In these hard times, we are all on the lookout for inspiration, hope, and comfort. To aid in this quest, Becca Anderson shares prayers and reflections from Frederick Buechner, Buddha, the Celtic tradition, Irish blessings, the Shawnee chief Tecumseh, Meher Baba, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Black Elk, Hildegarde of Bingen, and dozens of other mystics, poets, and guiding lights.

One of our favorites from this collection is "A Prayer for All Prisoners" by C. Lee Davis of the Prison Ministry:

"Abba Father, Loving God, our hope and our salvation

"— Calm us —
Give us the pleasure of your presence

"— Empty us —
Make us pure vessels of your love

"— Polish us —
Shine each of us to be a reflection of your grace

"— Equip us —
Arm all of us, Father, to be your strong warriors.

"Right now, today,
We are yours and we are thankful.
Amen."

These are the riches of only the first chapter in this daybook of twelve months. Bon voyage!
