A Teaching Scene from Something New directed by Sanaa Hamri
Kenya Denise is an accomplished African-American woman who is a senior manager at a successful accounting firm. She knows what she's doing at work but is less confident in affairs of the heart. Then she meets Brian, a laid-back landscape architect who is the first man to ever make her feel at ease with herself. Her biggest surprise is that he is white.
In one scene, after they have begun a passionate affair, he applies bright red nail polish to her toes. He does this with such pleasure and tenderness that Kenya knows that he is truly enchanted with the person inside her. His attention has nothing to do with numbers or accomplishments. It is an act of love, reverence, joy, play and wonder all wrapped into one.
