The wounds and disagreements spawned by our birth families run deep and last long. But in this loving circle, there is always another chance for healing. That is the emotionally affecting theme of this drama directed by David Jones and written by Lee Rose.

Barbara Whitney (Stockard Channing) abandons her career in the city for a countryside idyll with her boyfriend, Sam (Stephen Collins). She is raising her sister Ruth's (Christine Ebersole) children, Matt (Noah Fleiss) and Megan (Chelsea Russo). When Barbara suddenly finds herself pregnant, Sam tells her that he'll walk if she doesn't have his child. Reluctantly, she gives birth to a daughter. Then she has to go to court when Ruth petitions a judge to give her custody of Matt and Megan; the children don't agree on where they want to live. Equally disconcerting is an unexpected visit from Sam's mother, Lucinda (Elaine Stritch), who has been estranged from him for years.

All of these pressures challenge Barbara and Sam to take a hard look at their own relationship and the rifts that have separated them from members of their birth families. In the process, they are able to forge new bonds and face the future with hope.
