Adapted from Sumner Lock Elliott's award-winning novel, this Australian film directed by Carl Schultz focuses on the struggle between two sisters for custody of an eight-year-old boy. Nicholas Glendhill plays the child, who wrestles with his feelings as he is shuffled from the home of his down-to-earth but poor aunt (Robyn Nevin) to the care of his beautiful aristocratic aunt (Wendy Hughes). The drama's nuanced portrait of a commonplace situation saves it from being just another tear-jerker.
