This is the third time German film director Percy Adlon has teamed up with Marianne Saegebrecht (Sugarbaby, Baghdad Café). The result, as usual, is a wild, weird, and wonderful film populated by colorful characters whose eccentricities make them endearing.

In this satirical tale, Rosalie comes across as an emblem of American conspicuous consumption. She is willing to go into extravagant debt without losing any sleep. And although her husband is grounded for his poor sight, Rosalie's eyes get bigger and bigger. In the end, she pulls off some masterful computer mischief and presto! — she's a successful entrepreneur. Rosalie Goes Shopping may seem far-fetched to some, but the film isn't too far off the mark in its portrait of fiscal irresponsibility.
