"A journey is a fragment of hell," Muhammad's saying, true as it is of being lost in a desert or being caught in a sandstorm, is true also of an imaginative journey such as the one I am contemplating here. But then again "to be lost in the desert was to find one's way to God," and my imaginative journey can become like Dante's a journey through hell and purgatory to heaven, a divine comedy.
