Apart from hope, patience could degenerate into resignation, and resignation into despair. But to stay committed and to continue working, despite the fact that what we seek is going to remain unrealized for a long time, requires more than determination and rugged wills. Hope, then, is the great virtue for those who take history to heart, those who continually feel and cherish our common humanity.
