In both Kwan Yin and Tara one may see parallels with the Christian Virgin Mary. Both, in their compassion, resemble the gentle Virgin. In their power and autonomy each is a towering, dynamic embodiment in her own right, with wide followings among faithful Buddhists in a number of Asian countries.
