The Midrash asks, "Why did God reveal Himself to Moses in a bush of thorns? In order to make manifest that there is no place where God's radiance is not; it may even be found in a thicket of thorns" (Shemot Rabbah 2:9). To this teaching the Koznitzer Maggid added, "As the atmosphere encircles the earth, so God envelops the world. There is no place where God's majesty is not."
