Like the colored prayer flags of Tibetans, Sherpas, and other Mongolian traditions, these ribbons or the more traditional strips of dyed cotton, are tied to living trees and bushes, and left out for some time, to blow in the wind. The wind blows them and frees the prayers to fly upwards to heaven.
