No one enters into a feud thinking he will lose the fight. This "theology of victory" — the belief that one side will manage to prove to the other that he or she is right and that the other will end up begging forgiveness — is what maintains a feud. But the certainty of victory is a setup for repeated disillusionment. Depression revives the pain of the triple tears and drowns the individual in blame, longing, and nostalgia.
