For the Dagara people, grief is a way for us to bridge the gap between ourselves and our ancestors. A grieving ritual can release the anger and sadness over a dead relative and carry his spirit to the land of the ancestors, where it can be of use to us. And through a regular feeding of our ancestors we can renew our ties with them.
