Although sunlight shines without discrimination, not everyone sees it in the same way. People in houses with the shades drawn may only see a narrow shaft of light. Those outside see more, but the sun may still be blocked by clouds; and even on the clearest day, the sun will eventually set. Just as it is impossible for us, on earth, to see the sun continuously, so too the bodhisattvas were unable to perceive all that the Buddha perceived.
