One of Confucius's students said to Confucius, "Look over there; a thief is being taken away by a policeman." Confucius then said, "I guess your teacher is passing by." The student then asked Confucius, "Why is he my teacher?" Confucius replied, "Isn't that thief ruining his life to teach you and everyone else a great lesson — to show us the results of crime? When we know that the events of the world are our lessons and teachers, we further our drive for learning. Our realizations will illuminate our wisdom."
