The sides of many roads are punctuated with crosses, marking places where children, mothers, fathers, whole families were killed.... We know this ground is holy. It is consecrated partly because of what happened there, and partly because it is a magnet for our devotion. It is the same if you go to St. Patrick's or Notre Dame, to Bodh Gaya or the smallest village chapel. Stop and listen: You can hear all the prayers ever prayed there; they roam the air, they live in the wind, they carry our hearts to heaven.
