Hypertext is the narrative mode and model of postmodern culture. Whether this is "the biggest upheaval in narrative form since written language itself," in hypertext the text is composed of light rather than ink; the reader shapes the story with the author; there is movable text instead of movable type, as the text won't stay still and can't be seen in its entirety. Without beginnings, middles, or ends, the same text is never read twice the same way. There is no one right way through the hypertext; there are many best ways.
