Owning too much creates a potential for its opposite. A string of inevitable problems emerges, such as maintaining these belongings and, ultimately, worrying about losing them. Objects of value in themselves breed thieves, according to the Tao te Ching, since it is only natural that others will want for themselves those objects that are given value by the culture. "No lure is greater than to possess what others want."
