"Wasting time" is universally scorned in our culture. To say "time's a-wasting!" is a warning and a challenge. In business, time wasted is money lost. If we are ruled by our calendars, daytimes and datebooks in our everyday world, wasting time is likely to throw our whole schedule off, to send our day spinning into disarray. What about an opportunity for the Holy Spirit to suggest something new — or even simply to have a moment to reassure us of God's abiding presence and love. We might all be better off if we "wasted" a little time attentively now and again.
