The term "soul-mates" is evocative of the highest ideals of relationship. It refers to a companionship in which there is some mysterious coupling of the spiritual pilgrimage of two individuals. I have stood above the junction of two great rivers, and watched how they flowed into each other. It seemed to me to express some of the possibilities of love, as well as highlighting the associated difficulties. The intermingling of deep streams creates a force and power and beauty which is more than that of the tributaries.
