The feet are in contact with the earth, yet they are above everything. The "feet" of God are that aspect of the Divine which fully enters into material existence yet cannot be limited or changed by it. In keeping with this symbolism, touching the feet, bowing down to the feet, or meditating on the feet of a personal form of God is a gesture of worship and surrender.
