Am I my time? That is the question on which [Martin] Heidegger ends his lecture on the concept of time. If there were no eternal consciousness, then I would have to say Yes, I am my time, but if there is an eternal consciousness, I will have to say No, I am my eternal consciousness in time. . . .

But if we do recognize the eternal in us, showing itself in things like music and love and understanding, then we can say there is a guiding principle in our lives.
