Never consider a blessing of an ordinary person unimportant to you. (Megillah 15a) This Talmudic statement offers a wonderful reminder to our inflated egos and our neurotic craving for glory and fame. I constantly revert to what I think is the most important sentence written any time, any place, which is Genesis 1:27 — that each and every one of us is made in the image of God. None of us is more or less divine in origin than any other. Every life is equally sacred and infinitely and immeasurably holy. This is the message we need to hear, and hear again, on a daily basis.
