Hindus greet one another with folded hands and bowed head, a symbol of reverence for the sacredness of that person's life. Buddhists believe that humans, though enmeshed in the karma of cause and effect, are capable of transcending suffering and eventually reaching the state of nirvana, the transformed mode of human consciousness, the eternal realm that is utterly true and dependable. Muslims teach that humans have been created by God and thus have the dignity of being responsible for adoration and obedience. Jews call one another to live with righteousness and justice, believing that humans have been created in the very image of God.
