After I'd been studying with my teacher, Maezumi Roshi, for about three years, he asked me to give introductory talks at local colleges. I told him that I wasn't ready. I didn't know enough. But he wouldn't accept that. He said that you'll never get to that place where you think you have enough clarity to teach — but that's not a problem, because teaching is really learning.
