Hasidism emphasizes serving God through the physical and the material (avodah be-gashmiyyut). This is an earthy, ordinary holiness. The world is God's body, Her primary revelation to us earthbound mortals. Our halakhah — the way we walk, the way we live — should reflect this. Ecology is more than a social cause; it is a spiritual principle, a way to honor and preserve the sacred variety of life.
