Between poverty and wealth, I have always chosen poverty. It's the best protection against miserliness and weaknesses of the spirit. It's cheap and easy to buy. Therefore, it's a good deal. If we are poor, we need not fight desperately against envy and competition. We answer to no one and need not deal with suspicion. And people understand us without our having to justify or explain ourselves. I beg you, my friends, don't deprive me of this treasure!
