I am striving now to become more comfortable with all that I don't know; I am working hard, as I often tell my wife, to truly let go into the mystery of life, because I find that when I do, love comes more easily to me. What matters to me more than anything else these days is to live in an affectionate universe, not only because I believe affection is the only real basis for authentic spiritual life, but because the older I get the more I see that the men and women I interviewed for this book are right: death holds little fear for those who have learned to love.
