A spiritual discipline is not just another something on your to-do list. It's not another task, like remembering your vitamins and flossing. It's the thing in which the tasks of life happen. It's the frame of life. I have found my own life happiest when my spiritual discipline is explicit, when there are certain things I do regularly. I have found living that way much happier than the times when I have been more general about it, vaguely waiting for inspiration to find me.
