An Excerpt from A Stay Against Confusion by Ron Hansen

Ron Hansen's collection of 14 essays explores the interface between Christian faith and fiction. Here's an excerpt on the spiritual practice of faith.

"In finding God in all things, Saint Ignatius was possibly inspired by the postresurrection appearances of Christ to his friends in which they so often mistook who he was: a gardener near the sepulcher, a vagabond on the road to Emmaus, a lone figure on the shore of the Sea of Tiberias offering the fishermen free advice about where they should cast their nets. Christ seemed to be teaching his friends that he will be with them always, as he promised, but in the world at large and in the faces of strangers."
