"To begin your journal, you may want to write a statement of why you want to experiment with journaling. For example:

"I'm starting this journal because I want to grow spiritually. My goal is to understand myself better and to clarify what I believe. I think a journal will help by providing a framework for reflection and a place to record my thoughts and experiences.

Then, underneath the statement you might want to write a contract with yourself: "Therefore, I contract with myself, and before God, to spend at least fifteen minutes a day writing in my journal," or ". . . to write at least a few lines in my journal every day," or ". . . .to write at least one hour a week."
