The Knots Prayer

"The contemporary prayer referred to as the Knots Prayer and attributed to an anonymous source has gained popularity over the Internet. It is easy to see why. The prayer is evocative of human struggle with will and worth. However, the prayer is supplicatory rather than affirmative."

Dear God:
Please untie the knots that are in my mind, my heart, and my life.
Remove the have nots, the can nots, and the do nots that I have in my mind.
Erase the will nots, may nots, might nots that may find a home in my heart.
Release me from the could nots, would nots, and should nots that obstruct my life.
And most of all, dear God, I ask that you remove from my mind, my heart, and my life all the "am nots" that I have allowed to hold me back, especially the thought that I am not good enough.
Amen.

"This prayer provides us a particularly fitting example of how not to pray affirmatively! Read my version in comparison and notice how you feel about yourself as you review both versions."

I breathe deeply into this moment of high awareness, One with All That Is.
I AM the power of Release, untying the knots in my mind, my heart, and my life.
I AM Divine Love in harmony with others and myself.
I AM the power of Will, willingly releasing the thought of have not and cannot.
I AM Divine Mind, abundant and capable.
I AM the power of Imagination dissolving the energy of will not, may not, and might not, could not, would not, and should not.
I AM Divine Wisdom knowing all things are possible.
I AM the power of Life, claiming my vibrancy, vitality, and value. I celebrate my True Nature, which is divine.

"Now that we have reformed our language in prayer, we have built a powerful basis for the practice of affirmative prayer."
