“To sow a seed in an action-as-cause (karma-he-tu). When the action-as-cause ripens, it becomes an action-as-result, or action-fruit (karma-pha-la). Maturation means the conclusion of all the actions-as-cause upon their ripening. When we look deeply, we see that our own psychology and physiology, our happiness and our suffering, are all actions-as-result in the present moment of actions-as-cause from the past. Looking back, we can see the past actions that were sown as seeds in our store consciousness. Thanks to the wholesome seeds sown by our ancestors, parents, teachers, friends, and our culture, we can now enjoy peace and joy as we practice walking meditation. Looking in the present, we see that if we continue to water and sow these wholesome seeds, our peace and joy will be greater in the future.”
