Three baby owls, Sarah, Percy and Bill, live with their mother in the trunk of a tree. They are very dependent on her so when one morning they wake up and see that she is gone, they are very frightened -- especially Bill, who keeps saying, "I want my mommy!" Sarah is most optimistic surmising that their mother has gone hunting for them and will bring back "mice and things that are nice." When Mother Owl does return, they rejoice by dancing up and down on a branch.
Writer Martin Waddell has perfectly captured the nurturing relationship between this owl mother and her three offspring. The ink and watercolor illustrations by Patrick Benson beautifully convey the feelings of the three baby owls as they fear loss, separation, and abandonment. This children's picture book is designed for pre-school children.
