This gift set includes a 96-page book and a hand-painted figure of Kali in a box that transforms into a shrine. It is the work of Manuela Dunn Mascetti (The Buddha Box, The Ganesha Box) and the Book Laboratory.

Kali is the goddess of creation and destruction in countless Hindu stories and, as the embodiment of primal energy, she is also the primary force in kundalini yoga. She is the personification of mother love and feminine vitality known in the Hindu religion as shakti. In many of the illustrations in this little book, Kali is represented with black skin, many arms, a necklace of skulls, red eyes, a protruding tongue. She is often standing astride her husband, usually represented by Shiva.

Mascetti provides readers with explanations of this fierce goddess, the myths surrounding her, and examples of mantras, prayers, and other rituals designed to summon her power. Kali is often called upon "to end or destroy negative patterns that keep you from experiencing well-being and freedom." These rituals should be performed at night only during a full or new moon.
