In The Feminine Face of God: The Unfolding of the Sacred in Women Sherry Ruth Anderson and Patricia Hopkins share material from their interviews with over 100 women from a wide variety of religious traditions. The authors, who have led women's workshops across the country, asked others to speak about their spiritual experiences, losses and crises, prayer and meditation, the body and sexuality, and role models.

The respondents include writers, theologians, a former nun, a teacher of the Kabbalah, a healer, a New Age community leader, a Seneca elder, and a Jungian analyst. They speak most forcefully from their own spiritual experience rather than from patriarchal traditions. Anderson and Hopkins have organized chapters around childhood experiences of the divine, leaving home, gateways leading to spirituality, intimate relationships, spiritual practices, and community building.

The Feminine Face of God, illustrates how important it is for women "to trust the truth of their own experience." During this decade many women's groups will explore the distinctive twists and turns of their spiritual journey. This excellent resource provides useful examples of dialogue and sharing among women.
