Jon M. Sweeney is an award-winning author, critic, and long-time book publisher. He has been interviewed in print by publications from the Dallas Morning News to The Los Angeles Times and The Irish Catholic, and for television on CBS Saturday Morning, Fox News, NBC-TV Milwaukee, Religion and Ethics Newsweekly, and public television’s Chicago Tonight. His 2012 history, The Pope Who Quit, was optioned by HBO. He’s the author of more than forty books including The Complete Francis of Assisi and St. Francis of Assisi: His Life, Teachings, and Practice, with a foreword by Richard Rohr; The Pope’s Cat fiction series for children; Meister Eckhart’s Book of the Heart with Mark S. Burrows; and biographies of Phyllis Tickle, James Martin SJ, and Nicholas Black Elk. He has led two e-courses at Spirituality & Practice on The Spirituality of St. Francis and The Spirituality of Cats.

Jon speaks regularly at literary and religious conferences, retreat and conference centers, and churches. He is a Catholic, married to a rabbi; their interfaith marriage has been profiled in national media.
