Straight Out of Brooklyn focuses on the attempts of a frustrated and angry black youth to find a way to free his hard working mother, his younger sister, and his alcoholic and abusive father from their life of poverty in an inner city ghetto. Only problem is — as his sensible girlfriend tells him — robbing a local drug dealer is the wrong method. Writer, producer, and director Matty Rich scores some points here in the depiction of the family's hopelessness.
