Leningrad Cowboys Go America is an immensely funny film written and directed by Aki Kaurismakl. An eight-member Finnish band and their tyrannical manager fly to the U.S.A. where they audition for a fellow countryman in New York City. After hearing their hokey music, he sends them to Mexico to perform for a wedding celebration. In a series of whimsical incidents, the Leningrad Cowboys make their way south performing in crummy bars and leaving everyone unimpressed. Nonetheless, these galoots are endearing with their outrageous hairstyles and funny looking shoes which curl up at the toe. Kaurismaki has concocted a hilarious picaresque tale which throws off some clever cross-cultural insights as well.
