Biologically and genetically, all life on earth is more alike than different. Emotionally, too, no matter what culture or country we are from, we can be moved by heroic accomplishments and devastating tragedy. It's as if we are living proof of the ancient Vedic myth of King Indra, who had his architects construct a net around the world with a jewel at every junction, so that each jewel reflected and was reflected in every other jewel. Sometimes our lives may have so many loose ends that life seems like a tapestry seen from the wrong side. But when we open our hearts to others, the loose threads in the tapestry of our lives can become woven into Indra's net.

With joy and gratitude
may I see the beauty of myself
and of others
as we reflect and are reflected
in the radiance of each other —
the sacred web of one world.
