We need to consider how late midlife women can take advantage of what anthropologist Margaret Mead called their "postmenopausal zest," and what I have called the emergence of the Guardian [the midlife woman who calls people and institutions to their higher purposes and best expressions], by being helpful to others in ways that also lead to our own happiness and longevity.
