Going right back into the twilight of our human story, at least to six hundred thousand years ago (when we think fire was first brought under human control), our human ancestors danced. Dance was one of their chief forms of communication — with each other, with nature, with the cosmos, and with the life force (God). Dance emerged as a primary medium to make sense and meaning out of life. Dance became the connecting link with the "ultimate source," the medium used to establish archetypal communication with the heart of reality. Dance is the first, most ancient, and most enduring form of religion.
