Rachmones, literally, [means] "compassion," from the word meaning "womb." We ask God to deal with us not only with a sense of justice, but with an overwhelming sense of mercy and compassion. We, who are created in God's image, can do no less with our fellow human beings. We need to develop and feel compassion, caring, sharing; we need to speak compassionate, loving words and do compassionate, kind deeds. We need to have rachmones and give rachmones. There are so many who need our rachmones, so many who need our compassion, our empathy, our decency. We need to have rachmones for them. And we need to have rachmones for ourselves, for we, who are often so harshly judgmental of ourselves, need our own compassion. We need to be kind to ourselves.
