Words came to their end in the silence of Jesus, who handed over in obedience his inability to sort out the meaning of the will of the Father and his own motivations. Words reach their limit in prayer, as we take up an elemental relation of address and attention toward God. In our attempts at obedient listening to God, our own words falter and get in the way; we have to quieten our hearts, discern the signs, heed the unconditional call of God even in our suffering.
