The [Eastern] Fathers place great stress on inner attention, or the guarding of the heart (in Greek, prosochi). This refers to the necessary inner discipline to be attentive in the very suggestion of a thought and whether the thought will lead to good and greater union with Christ or to greater self-centeredness.
