Jesus never talks about poverty, and he certainly does not commend it as something to be embraced, spiritually or materially. Jesus talks about the poor, not about poverty. And from a gospel perspective, the call and challenge for all humans is to work toward a new world order where poverty can be overcome and eventually eliminated.
