Throughout the gospel we see Christ conferring peace on his disciples. He tells the bearers of the gospel that, upon entering a dwelling, their first action should be a blessing, "Peace be upon this house" (Lk 10:5). In his final discourse before his arrest, he says to the apostles: "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid" (Jn 14:27).
