The German theologian Karl Rahner, SJ, believed that the words "And Jesus wept" (John 11:35) are perhaps the most significant words in the gospel. Why? Because they demonstrate that it was Jesus' ability to weep and enter into communion with people that permitted him to bring them salvation.
